The American Ornithological Society (AOS) has opened nominations for our 2023 Council, Classes of Fellows and Elective Members, and various Awards! We are committed to building an inclusive and welcoming organizational culture that celebrates the contributions of our members to the AOS and to ornithology. You can help make the AOS stronger by participating in these important elections for leadership roles within our Society and recognizing the achievements of our members.
The AOS relies on you, our members, to participate in the Society’s efforts to celebrate ornithologists who have made important contributions to our science and our Society by offering nominations for achievement, publication, and service awards. AOS is grateful for all of our members’ contributions, which serve to strengthen and diversify our Society. Please help us to recognize and celebrate these contributions, and to create a welcoming and supportive professional community for everyone—we are all the AOS!

2023 AOS Council
All AOS members are invited to submit nominations for open positions on the AOS Council, the Society’s governing body. This year the Society will elect four Elective Councilors and the officers of Secretary and Treasurer. Nominations require the consent of the nominee and can be submitted via our Member Portal. Full details, including instructions for submitting nominations, are on the AOS website. Elections will be held in the spring of 2023.

Fellows & Elective Members | Class of 2023
We invite nominations for consideration for AOS’s Special Membership Classes of Elective Member and Fellow, which recognize members for their exceptional contributions to ornithology and/or to AOS. Current Elective Members and Fellows may submit full nominations through the Member Portal. Any AOS member may suggest names for consideration as either Fellow or Elective Member nominees by completing the questionnaire included in the AOS Fellow & Elective Members nomination form in the AOS Member Portal. Suggested nominees will be considered and potentially nominated by the Nomination of Fellows and Elective Members Committee. 2023 Student Membership Awards
Membership Awards: Do you know a student who is interested in joining the AOS? AOS awards one year gratis student memberships to students new to the Society from anywhere in the world who are interested in pursuing a career in ornithology. Qualified applicants for Student Membership Awards receive the full benefits of AOS membership through December 2023. (Please note that nominations for the 2023 Student and Postdoc Research Awards and Student Presentation Awards will open later this year.)

2023 Society Awards
Please nominate your colleagues, mentees, or mentors for AOS’s prestigious awards. The eligibility criteria and award details are presented for the Senior Professional Awards, Early Professional Awards, Service Awards, and Publication Awards on our website. Let us know if you have questions! Awards are announced in the spring and presented at AOS’s 2023 Annual Meeting, which will be held 7–12 August 2023 in London, Ontario.
