The AOS Committee for Nomination of Officers and Elective Councilors is continuing to seek nominations, including self-nominations, for the following leadership positions, which will be on the upcoming 2022 ballot:
- President-Elect
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Elective Councilor (4 seats for election).
The Committee is seeking a diverse array of nominees and is extending the nomination period through Friday, 21 January 2022. AOS members have an opportunity to help shape AOS’s future by suggesting other members or volunteering themselves to be considered for these important positions. Please think about how your vision, skills, and experience, or those of your nominee, might best contribute to a diverse, highly qualified leadership of our Society.
The AOS Council is the central decision-making body of our Society. There are four positions open for Elective Councilors to serve for a three-year term beginning immediately after the annual AOS meeting in June. The President-Elect will serve four years, including a two-year term as President-Elect followed by a two-year term as President. The Secretary and Treasurer positions are up for election (or reelection) annually. Matt Carling, newly elected as Treasurer in 2021, has graciously agreed to stand for election again this year. Andy Jones, after seven years of dedicated service as Secretary and five years preceding that as Recording Secretary, has decided not to run for reelection as Secretary. We truly appreciate his consummate service to AOS and are seeking nominees for his replacement.
Any member in good standing may run for Treasurer; a candidate for Elective Councilor or Secretary must be an Elective Member or Fellow; and a candidate for President-Elect must be a Fellow. Please let us know if you’re interested in running for Council or an officer position or in learning more about what these commitments would entail!
To submit a nomination, please log in through the AOS Member Portal, select the Officers & Councilors Nomination Form, and provide the following information: first and last name of nominee, nominee’s institution, nominee’s email address, nominee’s website (if available), and position being nominated for (Treasurer, Secretary, Elective Councilor, or President-Elect). Additional supporting documents, such as a CV or statement of support for the nominee, are welcome but not required.
If you have not yet renewed your AOS membership for 2022, now is the perfect time! AOS membership is required for both nominators and nominees.
