Call for Roundtable Discussions

AOS & SCO-SOC 2021 Virtual Meeting

The submission deadline has passed.

We seek a varied suite of proposals for roundtable discussions at the 2021 joint meeting of the American Ornithological Society and the Society of Canadian OrnithologistsSociété de Ornithologistes du Canada (AOS & SCO-SOC 2021 Virtual Meeting) that cover a wide range of timely topics highlighting exciting advances in ornithological research, management, education, and conservation. Our aim is to provide opportunities of interest to a wide audience, from agency staff to young ornithologists, across the Americas and around the world. All roundtable discussions will be delivered live as either Zoom Meetings or Zoom Webinars (depending on the number of registered attendees and organizer preference) via the conference’s online platform.

Online roundtables are a forum for panel discussions and interactive polling of participants centered around current or emerging issues and their future directions; alternatively, they can be used as a venue to gather information for generating planning documents, or to share information broadly. Organizers are encouraged to consider topics related to the conference theme Birds of Many Feathers Flock Together,” although any subjects of broad interest in ornithology are welcome. Organizers of smaller roundtables hosted as Zoom Meetings will have the option of using randomly assigned breakout rooms for small group discussions. For roundtables hosted as Zoom Webinars, organizers and panelists may engage in discussion, and attendees may interact with panelists by answering polling questions or posting questions and comments via the Q&A and chat features of Zoom Webinars. Roundtables will be scheduled for 60 minutes during the late afternoon EDT. Available dates for roundtable discussions are 10–13 August during the conference. Roundtable organizers and panelists are expected to pay for full conference registration. At the virtual NAOC in August 2020, 12 online roundtable sessions hosted 57–1,433 registered participants.
