Spatiotemporal dynamics of geographic range in seasonally migratory birds

February 9 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EST
Virtual Event

AOS Student Research Grant Seminar

Presenter: Matthew Hack, Ph.D. candidate, University of Michigan; 2024 Student Research Grant winner

Bird migration is one of the most spectacular phenomena of the natural world, as billions of individual birds bring about profound spatial redistributions of biodiversity multiple times per year. My work aims to better understand the ecological and evolutionary factors structuring the distributions and timing of bird migrations. I use a combination of species distributional data and animal tracking technology to explore how the movements of seasonal migrants influence their geospatial distributions, along with the evolutionary and ecological consequences of differing migratory strategies.
